Year 6 Hockey Festival
On the morning of Tuesday 31st January, 11 Year 6 children attended the Year 6 Hockey Festival played at Southend Hockey Club. We had not experienced the astroturf surface and were very much looking forward to it.
We played six games in total, drawing 0-0 in all the games against Heycroft, Barons Court, Alleyn Court, Earls Hall and Darlinghurst. We managed to score against Hamstel and drew with them 1-1.
With some excellent defending and teamwork, we improved immensely by the end of the morning.
Well done to all the players.
In the afternoon, ten more children arrived to play in the main competition.
We played Thorpe Hall and won 3-0, Hamstel and won 1-0 and drew 0-0 with Leigh North Street which left us top of our group. We then played Heycroft in the semi-finals. This was an extremely close game with both teams having shots saved on the line! We scored a goal in the last seconds which was disallowed as the ball hit feet. The opposition then broke our defence and scored with the last hit of the game.
We played Hamstel again for the bronze medal position and managed to beat them 1-0. A great display from both teams and a thoroughly enjoyable day had by all. Once again a huge thank you to all our parents for helping out with lifts for the children.
