Whilst there were less costumes for World Book Day this year at West Leigh, this wonderful event did not go unnoticed.
Across both the Infants and Junior schools, all the children were introduced to the wonderful book, 'Here We Are: Notes for Living on Planet Earth' by Oliver Jeffers. The story was written by Jeffers soon after the birth of his first child; he wanted to write a story about the world in which we live, how we should aim to look after it and each other. This wonderful sentiment was explored from Reception to Year 6 and culminated in a collaborative piece of art with all the children from Years 2 and 6 working together. The new artwork will be on display in the dining hall for you all to view. We are so very proud of the children's outcome.
The school bell was used throughout the day to signal 'Drop and Read' moments - PE lessons, music lessons, maths and all other subjects came to a brief halt for the children to grab their reading books and indulge in a few stolen reading moments. It was such a joy to witness.
Finally, on Friday 4th March we welcomed author, Skye McKenna, into school to meet with the children from Years 3 and 5. She invited us into her world of Hedgewitch and the children were truly captivated by her amazing magical, mystical knowledge. At the end of the day, many of you brought your children back into school to meet Skye and attend her book signing. We hope you enjoy sharing the books at home.
