Tennis Festival 2022

On Wednesday 4th May, West Leigh Junior School held a ‘Mini Tennis Festival’ at Westcliff Lawn Tennis Club. An amazing 110 children from the school participated and enjoyed an afternoon of tennis.

Pupils were arranged into small groups to play ‘round robins’ so that all participants played at least 3 matches. The format of each match was a ‘tie-break’, the winner being the player to reach 5 points. Throughout the afternoon there were some extremely close matches.

The pupils with the highest scores after the ‘round robin’ stage then played in knock out matches at the quarter-final, semi- final and final stage. Again, there were some very close matches, with many players only separated by one point as games finished 5 – 4. The winners of the lower school competitions were Anaya Sidhu and Cayden Ovenden, with Martha Green and James Packer in silver medal position. In the upper school events, the gold medal winners were Sadie Moyes and Felix Mismar, with Hallie Christou and Charlie Glenister in the runner up position.

Many congratulations to all the children from West Leigh for demonstrating excellent tennis skills, super sportsmanship and for being great ambassadors for the school. Thank you to the parents, grandparents and carers for supporting the pupils and to Graham Boosey and the members of Westcliff Lawn Tennis Club for helping to organise the event.
