Sports Hall Athletics

It has been an incredibly successful week of sport at West Leigh as some children were selected to represent the school in the 'Sports Hall Athletics' competition on Wednesday. The squad participated in a range of sprints, relay races, throwing and jumping events. With 24 schools taking part in the competition and over 1200 children participating in total, it was a day full of excitement, sporting excellence and lots of noise!

Children from Years 3 and 4 competed during the morning and it was wonderful to see just how determined they were to succeed. They smiled throughout the morning and cheered on their teammates. Their hard work and practice paid off as they finished in 2nd place, making themselves and the staff incredibly proud!

The Year 5 and 6 team knew it would be difficult to replicate the success of the morning but were willing to give it their all. The children ensured that they competed to the highest possible standard, whether it be perfecting the relay baton changeover or pushing for extra millimetres in the triple jump. After an anxious wait for the results, it was revealed that the West Leigh Year 5 and 6 team had finished 1st and are now the Sports Hall Athletics 2023 champions! They will now go on to represent Southend in the Essex finals on Wednesday 8th March. Well done to all of the children involved.
