TAG Rugby
12 people, people smiling, people standing, grass, child, outdoor and nature]Once again, after winning the Southend Finals in October, West Leigh attended the Essex Tag Rugby Finals (for a 12th successive year!) In preparation for the event, the squad trained diligently and were ready for the original date (March) until the weather led to it being postponed. In the period between that date and the new date, unfortunately two of the players suffered injuries leading to significant changes needing to be made to the squad.
In the morning of the competition, although it took time for the new team to gel together, they managed to have a highly successful morning.
West Leigh 2-1 White Bridge
West Leigh 6-1 Frinton-on-Sea
West Leigh 4-2 Terling
West Leigh 6-3 Janet Duke
Having won their group in the morning, they qualified for the 'Super 10s' and faced stiff competition against some of the best teams in Essex. Although it did not all go their way, they found passion and desire to recover from a defeat and bounce back.
West Leigh 3-1 Terling
West Leigh 3-5 St. Peters (runners-up)
West Leigh 4-2 Thameside
West Leigh 4-1 Quilters
These results led to West Leigh qualifying for the semi- finals although they were unfortunate to lose out the eventual winners.
West Leigh 3-5 Great Totten
In the third place play-off, even though they had played nine games, they found enough energy from somewhere to finish the day on a high.
West Leigh 3-2 Moulsham
Well done to all involved on great play, great determination and great sportsmanship which was, as we would expect from West Leigh, second to none!
