Carol singing at the station

Young musicians from West Leigh Junior School helped to spread the Christmas spirit at Leigh Station on Thursday. The children were supporting the Southend Blind Welfare Organisation charity collection by entertaining the commuters as they arrived back home. Santa hats, tinsel and reindeer antlers accompanied enthusiastic renditions of favourite carols and festive songs. ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’ was one of our greatest hits along with ‘Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer’, ‘Away in a Manger’ and ‘Jingle Bells’. Interludes of recorders and plenty of sleigh bells helped to create a lovely atmosphere. Thank you to all the children for giving their time and talents to support such a worthy local cause. We await the final figure for the total amount raised but the organisers were really pleased with the response. Thank you also to the crowd of parents and grandparents who attended this event, joining in with the children and supporting the charity’s good work. An amazing £500 was raised in just one and half hours.
